New Childminder Workshop

Courses currently being run by Topey Ltd 2019/20

This workshop will look at all the tools needed to successfully register and provide a new childminding business.  A policy and procedure workshop focusing on the EYFS Statutory requirements and an Observation, Assessment and Planning Session in the afternoon to ensure you feel secure setting up your new business whilst also focusing on what is required with regards to learning and development of children once registered.

Course aims:

  • Policy and Procedure writing linked to statutory legislation

Risky Play – It’s Ok!

This short workshop is for those who want to increase their understanding of the importance of ‘risk-taking’ in play and to build your confidence to implementing a risky, challenging albeit safe environment to challenge and extend children’s learning and development.

Course aims:

  • What is the difference between risk and danger?
  • Risk adverse society?
  • Challenge perceptions and explore our attitudes to risk taking
  • Explore the benefits of allowing children to assess risks for themselves
  • Implement a risk-benefit assessment tool

How boys learn and develop

This course will focus on how boys develop and learn, it will challenge thinking  around how boys are encouraged to learn by adults.  We will focus on the psychological difficulties regarding the development of boys and how adults can utilise this information to provide an environment that not only enables learning but also encourages high levels of well-being and involvement which contributes to high levels of attainment.

Course aims:

  • How are boys different from girls
  • Creating an inclusive enabling environment
  • Boys language and literacy
  • How boys develop
  • Rough and tumble, weapon and superhero play and how it can be successfully included in your continuous provision.

Maths in the Early Years

This course will support you in developing children’s mathematical skills.  We will look at providing an enabling environment to develop children’s mathematical knowledge and skills both inside and outside.

Course aims:

  • Explore the role of the adult in developing and extending children’s mathematical thinking
  • Identify how real experiences enhance children’s understanding of mathematical concepts
  • Identify mathematical learning in children’s everyday play
  • How to engage parents in children’s mathematical learning

Quality of Education

This course will look at Ofsted’s new Quality of Education and their focus on the curriculum.  It looks in depth at your educational Intent, Implementation andImpactrelating to the curriculum you offer children in your care.  We will discuss how you can articulate what you are teaching children and why and how your curriculum offering is education-focused rather than data-focused.

Course aims:

  • How to offer a curriculum that is ambitious to all pupils
  • How to coherently plan and sequence learning and opportunities
  • How to successfully adapt, design and develop learning for SEND pupils
  • How to offer learning and development opportunities that is broad and balanced for all pupils
  • Examine what Good/ Outstanding practice can look like
